Laney Lai, also known as apileofmud, is a visual artist based in New York City. She graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 2019 and has worked in the commercial animation industry for five years. Alongside her commercial work, she reimagines the possibilities of digital media by developing her personal artistic practice.
With visual motifs influenced by modern abstract movements and contemporary art forms, she creates a personal mythology through the digital format. Deeply drawn to mystical beings and the occult, she views them as expressions of humanity’s innate connection to nature, through which reveals the higher self. In 2024, Lai left the commercial industry to pursue her art practice full-time, expanding into new creative directions.
