Laney Lai, also known as apileofmud, is a 3D Artist based in New York City. She graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 2019 and has worked in the commercial animation industry for five years. Alongside her commercial work, she reimagines the possibilities of digital media by developing her personal artistic practice.
Influenced by modern abstract movements and contemporary art forms, her digital work evokes dreamlike, surreal qualities. She often draws on mystical beings and the occult, which she views as humanity’s innate connection to nature and the unseen. She creates quiet spaces of introspection—portals that offer a brief escape from reality. In 2024, Lai left the commercial industry to pursue her art practice full-time, expanding into new creative directions.
